While I wouldn’t label myself an ‘over apologizer,’ I seem to constantly apologize for not getting back to people fast enough. I almost always reply within 24-48 hours of the original contact, yet somehow that doesn’t feel good enough to me, or them.
I can trick myself into feeling like any break I have should be utilized to acknowledge all of those emails, calls, and messages that pour in throughout the week. But then that break isn’t downtime, and downtime is the space I purposely create for restoration, peace, and perspective.
This month I’ve made a mindful decision to stop writing or saying “I’m sorry,” when I get back to people. The, “So sorry your cat died” sorries, I’m ok with. It’s the, “So sorry I’m not good enough” sorries, that I’m going to work on eliminating entirely. Let’s see how it goes.
