Analysis – My Secret Weapon for Finding Peace

The other day I was analyzing my night sweats and I shared my discovery with G Man. 

“Homey, I have a theory about my perplexing temperature troubles at night.”

“Oh yeah?” G replied, sounding suspiciously like he does when I try to convince him that humans never landed on the moon. But, I didn’t let that stop me, friends.

I continued, “I don’t think it’s just hormones at play, I think another reason I sweat is because of circulation. Thanks to those four pregnancies, the circulation in the lower half of my body stinks so my legs and feet get cold at night, but the circulation in my torso is just peachy. So while my legs need the extra warmth, my upper body? Not so much.”

“Okay hun.”

And scene.

Let’s just say my husband, G Man Master De, has to endure many, many of these speculations throughout a standard work week on Boston Street, Team. As a matter of fact, less than 24 hours later I had another theory! This time, it was about his snoring. As you guys can imagine, he could not wait to hear my perspective on the inconsistency around his nighttime breathing.

When I brought it up he said, “Oh, another theory.”

And as I was about to grace him with my well-thought-out hypothesis, this popped out of my mouth instead, “Yes, G, another theory. I think the reason I analyze everything all the time is to figure out if it’s something I can fix, or something I have to accept.”

Up until that moment, I’m not sure that I truly realized why I try to reduce everything in life to its lowest terms. As a matter of fact, sometimes, well oftentimes, it feels like too much examination and investigating. But, as we talk about here at Confessions all the time, I’m very driven to lead a “What are you going to do about it?” life. I’m not surveying things to find fault and blame, I’m studying things to find solutions and peace.

I love that people taught me to take responsibility for the things in my life that either aren’t going smoothly or are causing me pain. Whether it’s trying to figure out how to wake up with a dry pajama top, or investing in better earplugs during allergy season—thinking about these things shifts me from a place of helplessness to a place of action.
