Spending most of June in graduation/stepping-up ceremonies, got me thinking about awards. I thought it might be a good idea for our family to give awards at the end of the summer. Awards like: Best Team Player, Least Amount of Fighting, Best Slave to Mama’s Needs, etc. And then it dawned on me—what awards would I be in the running for by the end of the summer? Most Likely to Freak Out When the Laundry Gets Dragged Out of the Dryer? Biggest Fit When Seeing How Messy the Upstairs Is? Best Dancer?
It would be pretty cool to be honored for the person you are naturally. I also like the idea of having an award in your head that you want to strive towards. What award would I want to receive? Best Listener? Most Patient? Most Spontaneous? (I definitely don’t see that one happening.)
When all is said and done, I’m not sure what I’ll be remembered for. Yes, I get a fire in my belly when the work I do around our home, and the space we share, doesn’t feel respected. But, at the same time, I know the laundry just doesn’t matter that much, and the messes will never be remembered. That’s why it’s so important for me to make sure I have a fire in my belly for things that are actually important. I don’t want to get lost in the mundane crap of every household and throw away any chance I have of receiving the highly-coveted metal: Most Clearly Recovered Micromanaging, Perfectionist, Martyr.
