In my last post, dated May 20, 2022, I quoted Rob Bell saying, “For every season there’s a reason.” I announced that I was going to stop blogging and start full-time podcasting in the fall of 2022. As soon as our big house project finished at the end of the summer, I’d move back into my office to start booking and interviewing guests for a newly-revised Confessions Podcast. But, the seasons had another plan.
The house project not being done in time paled in comparison to the news we were about to get in December. On the anniversary of my brother Tucker’s passing, we found out that my Mom has cancer. The good news is that it’s treatable, but she’s looking at about six months of chemotherapy. And once again, a new season brings forth new reasons.
After navigating doctors, and hospitals, and testing throughout the month of December, it was easy to think that I wouldn’t have time for work in addition to my other responsibilities. MartyrMags began piping in with thoughts like, It’s going to be too much to help Mom and do all the kid stuff. There’s the rest of the family, you still have to officially finish the house project….And then you’ve got all those other things—you can’t forget about all those other things! Just put off Confessions for a few more months and come back to it when less people need you. MartyrMags just loves to keep the order and have everything “just so” (she tries to be helpful).
As we all know, the day when no one needs us never comes. And “simplifying” always seems to be the word I hide behind when taking myself off the list. But, my life doesn’t follow a seasonal calendar when it comes to change. And when I get quiet, I quickly see that there are other ways to move forward. Thankfully, I have the power to adapt and adjust my plan whenever I choose, according to what TeamDe and I are managing on any given day.
Thanks for hanging in there with me, TeamConfessioners. I didn’t realize how much I missed you all, and it makes me so happy to be connecting with you once again. And holy smokes, friends, I can’t get over your support of the podcast—we already have over 1,000 downloads—Whoot! Whoot!
Please, spread the word: I’m BACK!

YASSSSSSS missed you in my inbox. and reading your words.
Here’s what struck me …
God’s timing is so perfect.
The anniversary of Tuckers death is a powerful reminder on its own, no doubt a reminder of great sadness, despair and perhaps a pause, a reflection. And in that stillness, perhaps also a reminder of God’s mercy. And of your own resilience that in the face of deep pain you can still thrive. Still find joy. Still celebrate.
Perhaps this timing is God saying
I am with you.
Be not afraid.
I go before you always.
Sending you all love and healing thoughts. Plus extra hugs to your sweet mom. I am so glad of her prognosis and the excellent care she’s been given by her medical team and how lucky she is to have YOU as her daughter. To be in the care of
your incredible hands, that is a blessing.
You, my friend, model love in all that you do.. ox

I think we all felt the same way–like it connected Tucker to this big life event in such a beautiful way.
