Letting Go of Tension – Starting With My Face

Listen to the podcast

Hopefully you guys can see the photo for today’s post—but if you can’t, it’s a picture of the wrinkles between my eyebrows. They’re what I like to call my grimace lines, but I recently heard them called “11 lines.” You guys know the ones I’m talking about…they pop out the instant your husband says, “Wait—you never told me that.” The reason I’m bringing attention to these beauties today is because they’re a clear indicator that I’m often holding tension in my body that I’m not even aware of.

Friends, scientists have proven that even fake smiling can lead to feeling less anxious and more relaxed. Which means the opposite is also true. That unintentional scowl on my face is leading to unnecessary stress and uneasiness. If my face has the power to influence my mood, I might as well start there. Relax my face, relax my mood—these wrinkles will be gone in no time, Team!

Now, I’m also happy to report that I have some clearly marked smile lines as well. And as I celebrated my 51st birthday this past Memorial Day weekend with the people who bring me the most joy, it solidified a beautiful goal for my next 50 years: Relax the 11s Mags, and deepen those laugh lines.

Next week, I’ll be talking about a life rule gem that in ten seasons, I have never shared with the Team. So, do not miss next week’s episode, especially if you have kids in your life. Thanks for listening, TeamConfessioners, and have a great week~

I would love for you to join me as I work to undo these old patterns and evolve to create a more serene and accepting existence. (And you should know that I still want to ear flick the little knuckleheads {this includes my husband} when they don’t rinse a dish before putting it in the dishwasher — always a work in progress.)
